A Note on Our Sanctuary and Boundaries

Welcome to the Room. Before we step into the necessary legal framework of our website, we want to share the heart of how we hold this space, and how we invite you to hold it with us.

This is a practice space, not a clinic.

While we draw from contemporary psychology, Internal Family Systems (parts work), and somatic resourcing to explore the stories we love, please hear us clearly: we are not therapy. The conversations, weekly card pulls, practices, and downloadable guides shared in the Room are intended solely for personal reflection, creative exploration, and self–led study. They are not a replacement for professional therapy, clinical treatment, or medical advice. If you find yourself in need of clinical mental health support, we gently encourage you to seek out a licensed professional who can provide a dedicated container for your healing.

This is a sanctuary, not a public square.

We care deeply about building a homey, restorative community of practice. To protect that sanctuary, we stand firmly as a queer–affirming and trans–affirming space. We are committed to a practice of safety, trustworthiness, collaboration, and mutual empowerment. Our digital spaces are designed to hold deep curiosity, gray areas, and mutual support—they are not avenues to explore hatefulness, bigotry, or discrimination. We reserve the absolute right to protect this boundary and keep our circles safe for everyone.

By stepping across our digital threshold, you are choosing to walk this path as a self–sovereign companion on the journey, agreeing to hold this space with the same respect, curiosity, and responsibility we offer to you.

1. Agreement to Terms

By accessing or using our website, roomofrequirementpodcast.com, and subscribing to our Substack newsletter, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with any part of these terms, please do not use our website or subscribe to our newsletter.

2. Our Content and Intellectual Property

  • Our Magic: All custom text, original audio, graphics, logos, and digital downloads on this website are the property of Meaning Making Magic LLC (the operational entity behind the podcast) and are protected by copyright laws.
  • The Meaning is Yours: While we own the digital files, we firmly believe the meaning of a story belongs to the hearts that are transformed by it. You are welcome to print out our public worksheets and reflection questions for your own personal, non–commercial use, or to share with a small group of friends. You may not sell, package, or redistribute our content for commercial gain without our explicit, written consent.

3. Third–Party Intellectual Property and Fair Use

  • Harry Potter: The Harry Potter book series, characters, names, and related indicia are the copyrighted property of their respective owners. The Room of Requirement Podcast is an independent, fan–created project. Our close–reading practice, somatic discussions, and psychological analyses constitute a highly transformative, educational, and commentary–based “Fair Use” of the text under United States copyright law.
  • Tarot and Music: We feature and discuss various tarot and oracle decks to facilitate self–reflection. We also use open–source, Creative Commons–licensed music (with proper attribution in our show notes). All rights to these creative works remain with their respective creators.

4. Community Guidelines and Right of Moderation

To keep the Room a gentle, welcoming sanctuary, you agree not to use our website, Substack comments, or social media spaces to:

  • Post or transmit any hateful, discriminatory, transphobic, homophobic, racist, or abusive content.
  • Harass, bully, or demean other members of the community or the hosts.
  • Distribute spam, advertisements, or unsolicited promotional materials.
  • Our Boundary: Meaning Making Magic LLC reserves the sole, unilateral right to delete comments, block users, or terminate newsletter subscriptions of anyone who violates these guidelines, without warning or recourse.

5. Limitation of Liability (Our Legal Shield)

This website and all podcast content are provided to you on an “as is” and “as available” basis.

  • To the maximum extent permitted by law, Meaning Making Magic LLC, its founders (Karl Turnlund and Kristen Shirkey), and any future partners or contributors shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages resulting from your use of this site or reliance on our conversations.
  • Because we are not licensed mental health practitioners or therapists, you agree that you are fully responsible for your own emotional well–being and nervous system regulation when engaging with our somatic exercises, disclaimers, and discussions.

6. Third–Party Links

Our site features links to external platforms like Substack, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts. We do not control or endorse the content, policies, or safety of these third–party websites, and you access them at your own risk.

7. Governing Law

These Terms of Service and any disputes arising under them shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, without regard to its conflict of law principles.

8. Changes to These Terms

As the Room grows and evolves, we may update these terms to reflect new practices, platforms, or legal requirements. When we do, we will update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the site after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
