Welcome to the Room of Requirement.

This is a podcast for curious people who want to experience familiar stories more deeply through reflection, psychology, and a little modern magic.

In this prologue episode (Episode 0), we your hosts (Karl and Kristen) invite you into a spacious, one-take conversation where we explore what a beloved story can teach us about ourselves and one another.

We didn’t start this project to analyze lore or debate plot holes; we are here to hold story as a sacred mirror.

If you’ve ever wished you could pull up a chair and join two thoughtful friends in a conversation about belonging, courage, grief, and what it means to be human, you’re in the right place.

Today, we’re laying the foundation for our practice and introducing you to the "Tri-Venn Diagram" of meaning-making that guides every episode:

• Modern Magic: How we use Tarot and Oracle cards to set an intentional theme for each chapter, and why we look for synchronicities in our everyday lives.
• Contemporary Psychology: How we utilize Internal Family Systems (IFS) to track which parts of our psyche are activated by the narrative.
• Embodied Awareness: Why every episode begins with a somatic Patronus grounding practice to ensure our reading is a felt, physical experience.

A few quick housekeeping notes before we begin:

• Spoilers Ahead: This is not your average reread. We will spoil the entire Harry Potter series to give the characters the context we need for deep reflection.

• Radical Inclusivity: The Room is a queer- and trans-affirming refuge. We vehemently disagree with the author's public statements and the harm they have caused, but we believe that stories ultimately belong to the people who are transformed by them.

• Embracing Imperfection: We believe in B-plus work. These early episodes capture us learning how to podcast in real-time. We appreciate your patience with our early audio quality as we find our rhythm.
